MadMen is the AMC award winning drama series created by Matthew Weiner. The series takes place in 1960s New York and centers around the lives of Madison Avenue men and women working in an advertising agency. While the show hosts an array of cultivated characters, the story focuses primarily on the life and struggles of up and coming Ad man and Executive Donald Draper (John Hamm). Throughout the series viewers learn more about the character history of Don and the conflict his occupation brings to his personal life. Viewers also get an opportunity to gain insight on the seductive advertising industry of the time as the show keeps a healthy balance between inner character development and business related plot twist. MadMen incorporates not only well written and awarded screenplays, but a stylized and progressive approach to series production that sets this drama apart. The series has made history by becoming the first basic cable series to win the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series in four consecutive years, documenting the success and intrigue of the show.

  1. This is my favorite show on TV right now, which is probably why I also chose to blog about it. I think its attention to detail in recreating the 60’s and its impeccable dialogue along with complex characters are what contributed to making it a huge cable success.

  2. I think this show is definitely, maybe similar to The Sopranos? My parents used to watch that show all the time and when they explained it to me, it sounds just as dramatic as Mad Men. I’m not sure I’m about the content of dramatic shows, but I would love to work on set on one of these types of shows; thinking about production is different to me than watching it.

  3. I’ve never seen this show before, and I’ll admit I had no idea what it was about. However, it sounds interesting! Definitely not what I expected…. Although I’m no sure exactly what that was…

  4. I’ve seen one episode of Mad Men in its first season and a handful over the past two. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t appeal to me. The plots seem to stay mostly in the realm of soap-opera drama, distinguished only by the period setting and the excellent writing. Good characters really aren’t enough unless these characters are doing something interesting…
